August 2025: UFO Report

The UFO Report is a monthly look at what has been reported to MUFON and NUFORC, the main reporting centers for UFO sightings.

During the month of August 2025, only one report was made.

August 15, 2025. 3:14 AM. Cruise ship near Ketchikan, AK. I was on the 9th deck of the Westerdam Holland America Cruise ship which was heading South after leaving Ketchikan on the early morning of August 15 at 3:14 am local time. The ship was traveling South at around 20 knots in fairly calm seas with light rain and minimal wind, and cloudy sky with no visible stars, moon or other lights other than those of our Ship.

Standing on the stern of the ship looking back towards the North I saw a large orange-red ball of light that was above the surface of the ocean and maintained its size and luminosity as we were sailing South at about 20 knots. The object remained in its position for over one hour and maintained its relative position matching the ships velocity. It made no sound and did not blink but did occasionally pulsate, but never turned off.

There were about 6 other passengers on the deck at the time and observed the same object as described. There were 4 other crew members who were on the rear deck at the time and confirmed the sighting and one of them reported it to the Bridge by radio communication.

I took a short time stamped video of the object with my i-phone and took several photographs.

After about one hour the object became smaller and less luminous, which suggested it had trailed off in the distance, then faded away.

Later that morning I reported the sighting to the Customer Service agent on board the ship and he took a written report and I provided a copy of the photo I took with my cell phone. I asked for a return communication from the ships navigation crew to determine if the object was visible to the crew and or radar imaging. To date, I have not heard back. (MUFON)

Alaska Space Editor: Alaska has had a strong history of red-orange orb/spherical UFOs, so this isn't anything new in regards to the color or shape. It's very cool that they were able to capture multiple photos and video of the craft. One is shown here. It's very large and almost looks like a sun in the distance. How do we know it's not? Simple, the atmosphere isn't lit up. When the sun rises, we get the colors of a sunrise. This is a very bright, very large spherical object in the distance producing its own light source.
